CO: Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

Happy Friday, Beautiful Blossoms! I hope your week went by smoothly and if not, well, at least you’re here because you love makeup or you’re just addicted to it. I fall on the latter – I dropped by the Kiko Milano in Kings Plaza and snagged me some lip stuff.

But today’s post is going to be dedicated to my OTHER go-to red lip product when I’m not relying on my Kiko Milano Temptress Lip Set: the NARS Velvet Matte Lip in Cruella. This pricey bitch got introduced to me on my birthday because I didn’t know Sephora actually gave out birthday gifts.

I was too distraught by my ex cheating on me that day so I went to Sephora to feel better.

I went there for a makeover with an ex-friend (had a falling out with her), her bf, and my cousin to celebrate the big day. The makeover cheered me up a bit but it wasn’t enough to keep me happy for the rest of the day: my ex didn’t even want to see me (we were still arguably together before it ended for good because he chose his “unfaithful” side chick over me). I bought the products that one of the employees tested out on me because I liked the outcome, and that’s when I got a surprise from Sephora.

I got the NARS Birthday Kit featuring their lip pencils in Cruella and Rikugien and immediately I was drawn to the Cruella. I’m not a big fan of nude to nearly nude lip color because the color comes out unflattering. But I actually didn’t start to use the Cruella until a few weeks later because a.) it was the first pricey item from Sephora that I ever got for free and b.) I really liked the box to the point where I wanted to save it forever and ever. Lol.

Mind you, this was before I discovered Kiko Milano. The only red lip product that I had was Revlon’s ColorButter in Candy Apple (it comes out HORRIBLE on me. Rather than red, it’s more orange @ _ @) and I wanted to feel better and more confident, so I decided to whip out the Nars Cruella and gave it a go.

Holy. Shit. I was in love. The shade was peeeeeerfeeeeeeeeect in every which way – yes, it was drying since it was matte but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me. It wasn’t bright red like the Revlon Candy Apple but it wasn’t too dark that it made my lips look necrotic (DO NOT GOOGLE THIS unless you don’t mind having nightmares for days). And this was also the only item that made me buy a sharpener. No joke – I never owned a pencil product until I got the lip set.

And I loved it so much I didn’t think twice shelling out $26 to get more full-sized versions. But I guess a lot of other people loved the shade too – finding them was no easy feat. I had to Sephora-hop to stash up.

But the price point is starting to become a deal breaker for me. $26 for one lip pencil?

And that’s it for this week’s Currently Obsessed! Next week I’m going to go over ALL the Currently Obsessed products I’ve listed and where to get them at the best price, since it’s the last Friday of February and it’s also the last week!

Want to know what I’ll be obsessing over next? Be sure to check back here Fridays!

*I posted a picture on Instagram to save my storage space here. I also wore the Nars Cruella in the picture of me wearing a dark blue jacket while looking like I have panda eyes lol. From now on, I’ll post pics of “Currently Obsessed” products there.
