BAFT: Long-Wear Makeup

One interesting trait that I’ve noticed as of late is the industrial standard claim of “long-wearing” or “long-wear” makeup. As in, the makeup lasts so long, I don’t need to bring my makeup kit for touch ups.

It sounds convenient at first – I wouldn’t have to worry about checking myself with my compact mirror every X amount of hours to see if my face is still on point with makeup, but lately I’ve been developing a minor aversion to long-wear makeup and prefer to bring my makeup kit for touch ups (the only thing I don’t bring is the primer). I don’t know if it’s an age thing, but I find myself disliking long-wear makeup, unless you’re performing or doing a lengthy theatrical.

What Went Wrong: UD’s Naked Palette

In today’s WWW, I’d like to blog about the palette that kicked off the never-ending craze for warm (arguably) neutrals: Urban Decay’s Naked palette.

Commonly referred to as Naked 1 – even though it was never released as such – this was hailed as an all-time favorite by beautytubers… that is, until the next free PR product came along. I’m not calling out those who genuinely like the palette and have consistently used it since they got it, but when was the last time the Naked palette has been mentioned as a favorite by the big leagues?

Outside My Beauty Bubble (Part 3)

In the last entry, I mentioned a brand that I had no access to in the US: BYS Cosmetics. The brand hails from Australia and is mainly available to Southeast Asia, Australia (obviously), parts of Europe and the Middle East, Southern Africa, and in Colombia and (soon) Chile in South America. At this time, there does not seem to be any plan(s) to expand to North and Central America.

BYS’s packaging aesthetic is a mix of black, hood makeup brands and W7. Here is their link if you’re interested in taking a look. As I’ve mentioned in the previous entry, this style of packaging made me a little sus about trying them out.

Outside My Beauty Bubble (2)

In the previous entry, I dabbled a bit about coming across counterfeit makeup. I’ve seen Internet talk about their existence and even saw news reports about them, but to see them in person is a bit of a rarity.

You see, in NYC, counterfeits of major makeup brands is rare to see – there’s just far too many SephUltas in Manhattan alone that buying counterfeit seems… well, counterproductive.

But that isn’t to say that I’ve never seen counterfeit makeup being sold in the streets of NYC – I actually did, and it was in the last place I expected to come across: 34th Street, a.k.a. Herald Square.

Outside My Beauty Bubble (1)

Hello, blogosphere! No, I haven’t kicked the bucket – it is 5:04 AM as I type this sentence, and I’m just going to provide a quick TL;DR version as to why I have pretty much fallen off the face of the blogosphere.

1. Quit my job as a Pharm Tech almost a month ago. Only reason why I have “free” time to even blog.

2. Left the US of A to go back to the Philippines, and boy, did I get culture shocked. Also, this tidbit is what led to the title of this (first of ???) blog entry.

3. Family emergency. Grandpappy got hospitalized right after we flew back in, so guess who’s pretty much on caretaker duty? No, the first two guesses don’t count. And yes, these all happened in this order.

Jelly

Today’s mood is me being irrationally jelly. Of people in the mall who walk around with Sephora bags.

No doubt they are happy with scoring something from the store. Or maybe they finally got the chance to get a gift for someone else. There will always be that air of mystery surrounding those black-and-white striped bags that strangers around me tote around.

Breather.

Hello, Beautiful Blossoms. Yes, it’s me. And no, the site is not dead. It’s just that so much has happened these past few months that it would be much simpler to list them in bullet points:

  • New place but no steady Internet.
  • Fender bender that’s costing me quite the pretty penny.
  • New job has me tired whenever I finish my shift.
  • Burnout from the beauty scene.
