BBA Spotlight: BH Cosmetics Quick Change – Brush Cleaner

a.k.a. why you shouldn’t even spend $20 on the original Vera Mona or try to be cheap with a DIY version with an H&M Hair Donut and a tin can.

Today’s blog post sheds light on what has essentially become a very handy staple in my personal eyeshadow application: the BH Cosmetics Quick Change – Brush Cleaner. It’s self-explanatory: you can swipe your brush against the sponge inside to clean your eyeshadow brush when going from one color to another. No rinsing with soap and water or liquid cleanser required.

Currently Obsessed: e.l.f. and Laura Mercier (Part 1)

And one that I’m now certain that I will chuck out: NYX Lip Lingerie (because they made a Lingerie line for lids and I made the mistake of using it as a liquid lip).

Welp, Beautiful Blossoms, I did say in an earlier post today that I was going to blog after work! Sure, it took me a bit of time to get settled (I left one of my bags at the clinic so I had to go and get it), but now everything is well again in my makeup space.

I’m kinda glad to bring back the Currently Obsessed series because it’s been some time since I became obsessed with what I use in my makeup rotation and in this case, I found myself doing a Pong between the e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Satin Lipstick in A Touch of Blush and the Laura Mercier DS Velour Lovers Lip Color in Devotion.

And pretty much disliking the NYX Lip Lingerie in Teddy, which I wore today and I can honestly say that it is NOT flattering on me.

The BBA Makeup Workhorses

Hey, Beautiful Blossoms!

I’m glad to be able to sneak in a blog entry today – between working my regular and overtime hours, shuffling between the old apartment and the new house, and trying to get my licensing exam in order, it’s nice to be able to talk about something that’s completely unrelated to all that: makeup.

I hate to admit it, but I realize that that there is a bit of a monotony in my life, but what surprises me is that it’s coming from the last place I expect it: my makeup. I may get picky with the eyeshadows I use, but when it comes to the rest of my face, I tend to use nearly the same product every time and I hadn’t really taken notice until today, when my mind has too much time to muddle over things.

But then again, when you have something that you consistently rely on, you don’t really give it much thought until it’s time for it to go to greener pastures. yep, we just went a tad bit dark with this one

First Impressions: L’Oreal Truematch Lumi Cushion

Hey Beautiful Blossoms!

I gave my self-purchased L’Oreal Truematch Lumi Cushion in N4 (Buff Beige) a run today because I’ve been itching for a more convenient way to put on  face makeup on the go without having to bust out a foundation brush and take a painstaking 10 minutes (this is the fastest I can ever clock myself doing this) and decide which foundation I’m going to work with (they all have their quirks).

And the other problem was that I had to dig through my primers and see which ones were silicone-based and which primers were water-based. Fun…

NOT. It was a pain in the ass because I had to look for the Dimethicone and its cousins in the ingredients list and I bought the MAC Prep + Prime at the suggestion of a MAC employee that it was silicone based (it’s not), so I’m debating whether to return that because I have a lot of water-based primers already… but I’ve never owned a MAC primer on the other hand…

Active on Insta. Blogging… Not So Much.

Intagramming is hella easy. You just gather the stuff you like, snap a pic with a phone or tablet or an iPod, and voila: easy peasy lemon squeasy result.

My Insta feed has featured a shit ton of haul pics. It’s no secret that I’m a makeup addict (and I don’t say that with pride, either… but it’s kinda hard not to when buying makeup makes you happy). Am I gonna review ALL the stuff I’ve been picturing on the BBA Insta?

That’s actually a good question. Not to brag or anything, but I’ve been fortunate enough to love a good chunk of the stuff I’ve bought. Really. The ones that do come to mind that failed are the Tony Moly Intense Care LS CC Cream (I snapped a pic of myself wearing it and sent it to my cousin. She agreed with my sentiment that it looked horrible on me) and the UD Vice 4. I swear, I don’t have a raging boner for the UD Vice 4 – I’m really trying to be more open minded to it in the sense that it may not be the pigment-in-your-face kinda palette. I’ve made this peace with my AudaCITY and in a way, I’m kinda glad that it was done the way it was because it lets me wear makeup in a professional setting where it would have been frowned upon if I went for the Instagram in-your-face look.

So I Bought Me an Artis Brush Set.

Like I mentioned in the BBA Insta, some people got bae. I got me. And for Valentine’s Day, I decided to treat myself to a 5-piece Artis brush set because I wanted to see what the hype was all about.

Price aside, the biggest appeal of any Artis brush is the soft bristle. This thing is supposed to be straight-from-heaven soft. My set arrived today and I popped one out to finally see what the fuss is all about.

I’m not too impressed. I was expecting the brush softness to be something to write home about. Nope. Some of my other cheaper brushes (and by cheaper, they all count as cheap compared to how much one of the brushes in the set would have cost) have softer bristles than the Artis. So what gives?

Then, an “aha!” moment: the bristles are densely packed – they are bunched up together so tightly that you can hardly see any space between each bristle hair. So maybe that’s why it wasn’t as soft as I was expecting it to be?

Or maybe the other lines from Artis have that straight-from-heaven brush softness that I’m expecting?

IMATS NYC 2017

What’s up, Beautiful Blossoms? I hope you’re all alive and reasonably well in spite of all the craziness that’s happening all over the planet. But I’m not gonna make this into a political rant (because there’s just an oversaturation oozing from pretty much every major media outlet in existence) because even I’m tired of it. And I’ve always been keen on keeping BBA strictly about makeup (and the occasional skincare that works across the board regardless of skin type).

Thankfully, I was able to come home with some energy to spare from work to write about my excitement for this year’s IMATS. Februrary already starts tomorrow and the event itself is held in April and I had a reasonably good time last year when I went for the first time ever. The only reason I found out about IMATS was because I was desperate to find a convention for makeup. We have Comic-Con, Winter-Con, Pax East (okay, not held in NYC but still), SXSW (South by Southwest), DragCon (West Coast only), but none that really caters to a makeup enthusiast.
