Frank on Depression: The MLM Adventures (Part 1)

Hey, Beautiful Blossoms!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of reading an interesting (and occasionally funny) blog called “The Not Quite Fairy-Tales of Elle Beau,” courtesy of a makeup Discord group I participate in. It was mentioned in the group at a good time for me because I needed something to calm me downย but never really did after a hectic weekend involving moving, a car, sticker shock, and ego.

Admittedly, the blog entries detailing Elle’s experience with Younique was surprisingly interesting – I’m no stranger to MLM (yes, I used to do it too and no, I wasn’t keen on the whole aggresive sales tactics that are fondly used by companies), yet I kept on reading Elle’s entries about how she went through the roller coaster of being a Younique salesperson until the ride finally came to a stop when, obviously, she quit the company.

A Breather Entry

Hey Beautiful Blossoms!

After being on hiatus for over a month, I finally got the chance to come back and just do a quick entry – I hadn’t realized that the last entry that I wrote was on March 7, but that’s what happens when moving plans fall apart get delayed, family members have a health crisis, death in the family, and heavier workload all come tearing after your time.

I’ve been a little more active on Insta due to the fact that I’m hosting the first ever Blossom Beautiful Aesthetics Giveaway, with the theme being Beauty Twins. If you guys are interested, the giveaway is open until May 25 and the rules are available on the firstย BBA Giveaway Insta post. There are more posts that follow that clarify the rules a bit (though to my disappointment, some people are at risk of disqualification because they are not following the rules ๐Ÿ˜ฆ and I want everyone to get a fair shot at winning… ).

Active on Insta. Blogging… Not So Much.

Intagramming is hella easy. You just gather the stuff you like, snap a pic with a phone or tablet or an iPod, and voila: easy peasy lemon squeasy result.

My Insta feed has featured a shit ton of haul pics. It’s no secret that I’m a makeup addict (and I don’t say that with pride, either… but it’s kinda hard not to when buying makeup makes you happy). Am I gonna review ALL the stuff I’ve been picturing on the BBA Insta?

That’s actually a good question. Not to brag or anything, but I’ve been fortunate enough to love a good chunk of the stuff I’ve bought. Really. The ones that do come to mind that failed are the Tony Moly Intense Care LS CC Cream (I snapped a pic of myself wearing it and sent it to my cousin. She agreed with my sentiment that it looked horrible on me) and the UD Vice 4. I swear, I don’t have a raging boner for the UD Vice 4 – I’m really trying to be more open minded to it in the sense that it may not be the pigment-in-your-face kinda palette. I’ve made this peace with my AudaCITY and in a way, I’m kinda glad that it was done the way it was because it lets me wear makeup in a professional setting where it would have been frowned upon if I went for the Instagram in-your-face look.

30 Days with my Vice 4

During another period of boredom / mind off to the great beyond at work, I surfed the Internet for what’s new in makeup. And then I find myself remembering the eyeshadow palettes that I already have (enough to cover nearly every color available).

And rather than get frustrated with seeing pics of eyeshadows being showcased on Instagram (and getting more sick of genericness), I decided to do a self-imposed challenge and reach foe one of my most neglected makeup palettes: the Urban Decay Vice 4.

I did a vlog review on this bugger some time ago and I still struggle to convince myself to use it more. Honestly, the colors aren’t wearable for work and the fallout is enough to annoy me to the point where I couldn’t be bothered to use it.

But my eyeshadow style is too much safe and not enough color or boldness. So, for 30 days after work (starting today), I’m going to play with my Vice 4. I’m debating whether I should post pics on Insta for progress, since I’m not doing this for views or anyone but myself.

I wonder how flexible the Vice 4 can really be.

Trying to Find My Way Back

I remember the time when blogging was still in its infancy: people were posting regularly about their personal lives, innermost thoughts, secrets and gossips shared,ย . Blogging served as a place to vent frustrations, share dreams and goals, or promote enthusiasm about a personal favorite.

Viewership wasn’t a big deal back then – at least, not the way it is now. Sure, there were some people who consistently got viewership, subscribers, comments, and front-page status on Xanga (just shows how old I am), but I didn’t give a shit about all that: I just wanted to write about the things that bothered me, the things that I really liked and could squeal about for days, and the things that worried me.

But now, blogging has exploded into a bonanza and one of its sub-niches, beauty, has become a rat race after it’s proven to be a money maker (to an extent). Of course, the lure of making money from a seemingly innocuous hobby is a difficult wave to ride out when you start a beauty blog or a seasoned blogger that’s never done beauty before.

TRE: When the Addiction is Too Real…

This week’s TRE does not feature the Kardashian-Jenners, KFC’s weird ass chicken-scented sunscreen (I’m beginning to think that KFC is pushing the Soylent Green agenda to reality), YouTube beauty vlogger drama (I don’t mind the tea spilling but it’s getting tiresome tbh), or any other mainstream beauty news. Rather, it’s going to be about BBA and me. Because I’m tired of rehashing things that have been reported already to hell and back. And the blog needs to be more selfish and personal, if that even makes any sense.

So what got me raising an eyebrow at BBA and myself?

You see, I had to rearrange my bed area / work space in an attempt to fight back at my bout of depression. Now, I have my work station right next to a shoe rack that you hang over a door. Except it’s not filled with shoes: it’s filled with makeup products.

Lots. And lots. And my tiaras to boot.

My Neglected Makeup: Urban Decay Naked

At work, I found myself thinking about writing a blog post today. After writing about my barely used Tarte blush, I found myself thinking about the other makeup products that get neglected because I don’t reach for them enough for some odd reason. Let’s just say there’s aย lot. In terms of palettes alone, I have at lest 10 – even more altogether because some are ย LE repeats. The paranoia of discontinuation is too damn real with me.

I have all 3 Naked palettes (I love 3 the most because I’m a sucker for rosey colors) and I bought the first 2 ย out of sheer boredom and being annoyed at my dad for making me drive him to a freakin’ golf course on our way to Maryland because 1 was the palette that really made Urban Decay a household name and 2 was also a huge hit. What kept me initially from buying them when I had the opportunity to do so?

I wasn’t drawn to the colors. I felt like 1 would blend with my skin tone since the colors were warm and 2 didn’t really interest me.
