Life Update # 4

Hi Beautiful Blossoms!

The title is a bit of a hint as to why I haven’t been active in the blogosphere: adjustment really is quite a process, one that I had hoped to easily glide through like I have done before.

I managed to move back to my official Home Borough – I had imagined that this would only happen at least after a year had passed, but mercifully I was spared from waiting and slowly rotting away at my old-new old again job by a chance encounter involving a recruiting company.

Said company secured me a better job (arguably less stressful, but it is a bit frustrating that I am not as well informed as I would personally like to be. But no matter, I’ve only been on for close to a month now), but along with that came a return to college to try and improve my supposed welfare (I’m still bitter about the way my first college run ended). Since my job has me on day shift, I had to make sure my class was after my shift ended.

It seems easy enough at a glance – did I mention that I have to dive into Manhattan to go to school? And no, commuting is out of the question since my work is hardly accessible by bus or subway.

People who worked during the day and attended night school have always had my respect, though now at a much deeper level than before.

Admittedly, I had hoped that with the new job and the push from college, I could turn to makeup as my go-to hobby again. But with all the unnecessary drama that’s taken place and the reality of the beauty community’s underbelly finally exposed, I wonder if I even want to be associated with the industry.

tl;dr I started a new job but the commute is long and I also have night school during the week, so my commute is even longer. And I’m losing interest in makeup because of what’s happening in the community.

Outside My Beauty Bubble (Part 3)

In the last entry, I mentioned a brand that I had no access to in the US: BYS Cosmetics. The brand hails from Australia and is mainly available to Southeast Asia, Australia (obviously), parts of Europe and the Middle East, Southern Africa, and in Colombia and (soon) Chile in South America. At this time, there does not seem to be any plan(s) to expand to North and Central America.

BYS’s packaging aesthetic is a mix of black, hood makeup brands and W7. Here is their link if you’re interested in taking a look. As I’ve mentioned in the previous entry, this style of packaging made me a little sus about trying them out.

Outside My Beauty Bubble (2)

In the previous entry, I dabbled a bit about coming across counterfeit makeup. I’ve seen Internet talk about their existence and even saw news reports about them, but to see them in person is a bit of a rarity.

You see, in NYC, counterfeits of major makeup brands is rare to see – there’s just far too many SephUltas in Manhattan alone that buying counterfeit seems… well, counterproductive.

But that isn’t to say that I’ve never seen counterfeit makeup being sold in the streets of NYC – I actually did, and it was in the last place I expected to come across: 34th Street, a.k.a. Herald Square.

BBA Spotlight: BH Cosmetics Quick Change – Brush Cleaner

a.k.a. why you shouldn’t even spend $20 on the original Vera Mona or try to be cheap with a DIY version with an H&M Hair Donut and a tin can.

Today’s blog post sheds light on what has essentially become a very handy staple in my personal eyeshadow application: the BH Cosmetics Quick Change – Brush Cleaner. It’s self-explanatory: you can swipe your brush against the sponge inside to clean your eyeshadow brush when going from one color to another. No rinsing with soap and water or liquid cleanser required.

Currently Obsessed: e.l.f. and Laura Mercier (Part 1)

And one that I’m now certain that I will chuck out: NYX Lip Lingerie (because they made a Lingerie line for lids and I made the mistake of using it as a liquid lip).

Welp, Beautiful Blossoms, I did say in an earlier post today that I was going to blog after work! Sure, it took me a bit of time to get settled (I left one of my bags at the clinic so I had to go and get it), but now everything is well again in my makeup space.

I’m kinda glad to bring back the Currently Obsessed series because it’s been some time since I became obsessed with what I use in my makeup rotation and in this case, I found myself doing a Pong between the e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Satin Lipstick in A Touch of Blush and the Laura Mercier DS Velour Lovers Lip Color in Devotion.

And pretty much disliking the NYX Lip Lingerie in Teddy, which I wore today and I can honestly say that it is NOT flattering on me.

Life Update Part 2

So I decided to give the good ol’ site a browse from an outside perspective and I noticed that I wrote an entry that had Part 1. I remember writing that title because there was going to be Part 2. And I intended to write Part 2 but when life sent me on a tide, I forgot about # 2, since Part 1 didn’t tell the whole story.

So what’s the rest of the story?

If you don’t keep tabs on the BBA Insta, I posted some tidbits about going back to school and the resulting diploma from it. I took a course to become a Pharmacy Technician and I’m set to take the certification exam at the end of this month. Doing so would allow me to work as a pharmacy tech anywhere, though I know hospitals prefer the PtCB, which is the more difficult version of the exam. Continue reading “Life Update Part 2”
